Scientists reveal 'screaming mummy' secret after a century
Cairo: Nearly a century later, scientists have finally been able to solve the terrifying mystery of an ancient Egyptian mummy that died screaming.
The remains of the mummy, dubbed the 'screaming woman', were discovered inside a tomb belonging to the family of a royal architect in Egypt in 1935.
What distinguished him from ordinary mummies was the presence of all the organs in his body that are removed from other mummies after his death.
This aspect was quite surprising to the scientists. It was initially thought that his mouth was accidentally left open in negligence while making a mummy. However, now a new scientific analysis has provided a different answer.
According to Sahar Saleem, a researcher at Cairo University, this is cadaveric spasm, an unusual form of muscle stiffness that occurs in the form of violent or highly stressful death at the time of death. That means she died screaming in agony.
